The Beginning of Forever: An Unforgettable January

The year kicked off with an event that would forever change everything. On a crisp Friday, January 3rd, 2014, my world shifted in the most beautiful way imaginable when Alex got down on one knee and proposed to me. It wasn’t just a question; it was the start of a brand new chapter, filled with promise and shared dreams. The night was nothing short of magical, a perfect blend of surprise, joy, and overwhelming love. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect, as my parents and grandmother were visiting from out of town, allowing us to share the exhilarating news immediately with our closest family. Their reactions, filled with tears of happiness and heartfelt congratulations, made the moment even more special. The entire weekend transformed into an impromptu celebration, bubbling with excitement, laughter, and endless conversations about our future together. It was an absolutely wonderful prelude to the adventure that lay ahead.

Whirlwind of Wedding Preparations: February to April

Following the joyous proposal, February plunged us headfirst into the exciting, yet sometimes overwhelming, world of wedding planning. Every spare moment was dedicated to envisioning our perfect day, from selecting venues to choosing themes and guest lists. Amidst the flurry of planning, we made sure to savor life’s simple pleasures, exploring delightful local eateries. We indulged in the delectable treats at WPA Bakery and enjoyed the savory offerings of Proper Pie, turning meal times into mini-adventures. February also brought unique experiences like a blogger barre class at Richmond Barre, a fantastic way to stay active and connect with the community. A particularly memorable moment was a fun photo shoot for Baggiowith my wonderful friends Sydneyand Kaytee, adding a touch of glamour and camaraderie to the busy month.

As spring unfolded, March and April ushered in a series of delightful pre-wedding celebrations that made the entire journey even more special. We had breathtaking engagement photos captured, freezing our excitement and love in time. These months were also filled with laughter, friendship, and cherished moments shared during multiple bachelorette parties and heartwarming bridal showers. I felt incredibly blessed to be surrounded by such loving friends and family, celebrating in both Ohio and Virginia. The outpouring of love and support from everyone made the impending wedding feel even more real and immensely cherished. Each gathering was a testament to the strong bonds we share, reinforcing the joy and anticipation for our upcoming nuptials.

The Grand Celebration: Wedding Bells and Honeymoon Bliss (May & June)

May and June were, without a doubt, the pinnacle of 2014. These two months encompassed the joyous culmination of all our planning and anticipation: our wedding day and our unforgettable honeymoon. Our wedding day was everything we had dreamed of and more. Surrounded by our beloved family and friends, we exchanged vows, filled with emotion, promising forever to each other. Every detail, from the ceremony to the reception, flowed seamlessly, creating an atmosphere of pure happiness and celebration. It was a day etched into our hearts, a beautiful declaration of our love and commitment. Following the whirlwind of our wedding, we embarked on our dream honeymoon to Charleston. This charming Southern city provided the perfect backdrop for relaxation and exploration. We spent our days wandering through historic streets, savoring delicious Lowcountry cuisine, and simply enjoying our first moments as husband and wife. Both experiences were absolutely wonderful, marking a truly magical transition into married life.

Post-Wedding Adventures and Family Connections: July & August

The summer months of July and August were a blur of exciting post-wedding travels, allowing us to extend the celebration and connect with family across the country. We embarked on several memorable trips, first to the vibrant city of Chicago, where we explored its iconic architecture and dynamic culinary scene. Next, we journeyed to Ohio, spending quality time with my side of the family, sharing stories and creating new memories. A particularly significant trip was to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Alex’s family generously hosted a wonderful wedding reception for us there, providing a fantastic opportunity for me to meet his extended family who couldn’t make it all the way to Virginia for our wedding. It was such a joy to finally put faces to names, share laughter, and feel the warmth of his family’s embrace. These travels were not just about visiting new places; they were about strengthening bonds, sharing our happiness as newlyweds, and truly becoming one family. Getting to know Alex’s relatives and introducing him to mine truly enriched our first few months of married life.

Major Milestones: From Culinary Delights to Homeownership (September & October)

As autumn leaves began to fall, September and October brought a new wave of diverse experiences and a monumental life change. We enjoyed a unique vegetarian beer dinner, exploring interesting pairings and culinary innovations. Our wanderlust continued with a couple of exciting trips to New York, soaking in the city’s vibrant energy and iconic sights. We also journeyed to North Dakota for my cousin’s wedding, a beautiful family occasion that brought everyone together. But the most significant event of these months, and indeed one of the biggest of the year, was undoubtedly the purchase of our first home. After dreaming and searching, we bought a house! The excitement and sense of accomplishment were overwhelming. It was more than just a transaction; it was a profound step into our future, a blank canvas where we could truly build our life together. The process involved a flurry of paperwork, inspections, and decisions, but the joy of finally holding the keys to our very own home made every moment worth it. This milestone marked a pivotal shift, transforming our lives as newlyweds into aspiring homeowners, ready to embark on a new adventure of nesting and creating our sanctuary.

Building Our Home and Festive Firsts: November & December

With the house officially ours, November and December were dedicated to turning it into our home. These months were a hive of activity, beginning with the monumental task of unpacking countless boxes, carefully placing each item, and finding its rightful spot. This was quickly followed by the exciting, albeit challenging, process of remodeling. We poured our energy into transforming spaces, painting walls, and making design decisions that would reflect our style and create a comfortable haven. Witnessing the rooms take shape, slowly transitioning from empty spaces to personalized living areas, was incredibly rewarding. As the year drew to a close, we shifted our focus to the festive season, celebrating Christmas with our families. These celebrations were made even more special by the arrival of my second little nephew, born on December 1st, adding a new bundle of joy to our growing family. Most importantly, we got to celebrate our very first Christmas in our new house, a moment filled with warmth, tradition, and the profound joy of beginning new family traditions in our own space. It was a beautiful culmination of a year packed with significant beginnings.

Reflecting on a Transformative Year and Looking Ahead

What an extraordinary and transformative year 2014 turned out to be! It was a period marked by profound personal growth, countless moments of joy, and the forging of new pathways. Some of these events, like the proposal, came as the most delightful surprise, while others, particularly the wedding planning and house purchase, demanded more paperwork, dedication, and meticulous organization than I had ever thought possible. (And I can happily say, I’m so glad to be done with wedding planning for now!) Each experience, whether planned or spontaneous, contributed to a rich tapestry of memories that we will cherish for a lifetime. Looking back, I’m filled with immense gratitude for the love, support, and incredible adventures that defined this unforgettable year. While I have no idea what 2015 has in store for us, I face the new year with an open heart, hopeful anticipation, and the firm belief that it, too, will be a great year, filled with new possibilities and continued blessings.
