Discovering Virginia’s Autumn Charm: A Perfect Blend of Wineries, Friendship, and Culinary Delights

There’s an undeniable magic about Virginia, a state I’ve proudly called home for over three and a half years now. It has seamlessly woven itself into the fabric of my life, truly feeling like a cherished home. While every season here holds its own unique beauty, autumn reigns supreme as my absolute favorite. The crisp air, the vibrant tapestry of reds, oranges, and golds painting the Blue Ridge Mountains – Virginia in the fall is nothing short of breathtaking. What better way to immerse oneself in the splendor of this remarkable state than to explore some of its exquisite wineries, renowned for their stunning vistas and exceptional vintages?

Just last Saturday afternoon, I embarked on an idyllic escape to Charlottesville, nestled amidst Virginia’s picturesque wine country, accompanied by some of my dearest friends. The journey itself was part of the charm, filled with lively, lighthearted conversation and infectious laughter that only true companionship can bring. From the moment we set off, every picturesque moment, every shared smile, and every delightful discovery was meticulously captured and immortalized through a flurry of Instagram posts. It was, without a doubt, a day crafted from pure perfection, a testament to the simple joys of friendship and scenic beauty.

Our oenological adventure led us to three distinct and remarkable vineyards, each offering its own unique character and charm:

We stopped at three vineyards: Pippin Hill Farm, Trump Winery, & The Jefferson Vineyards.

Our first stop, Pippin Hill Farm, immediately captivated us with its absolutely spectacular views. Perched majestically overlooking rolling vineyards and the distant peaks of the Blue Ridge, the landscape here felt like a living postcard. The elegant architecture of the tasting room, combined with the meticulously manicured grounds, created an atmosphere of sophisticated serenity. We savored their exquisite wines while gazing out at the breathtaking scenery, each sip made more enjoyable by the incredible backdrop. It was a sensory delight, truly a feast for both the palate and the eyes, offering a sense of escape and tranquility that lingered long after we left.

Next on our itinerary was Trump Winery, where the warmth of the hospitality truly stood out. While Pippin Hill charmed with its panoramas, the bartender at Trump Winery became our instant favorite. Their friendly demeanor, extensive knowledge of the wines, and engaging conversation elevated our tasting experience. We learned about the estate’s history and the nuances of their various varietals, all delivered with a genuine enthusiasm that made us feel right at home. It’s moments like these, connecting with passionate individuals, that truly enrich the journey of wine discovery, turning a simple tasting into a memorable interaction.

Finally, we arrived at The Jefferson Vineyards, a place steeped in history and renowned for its quality. It’s here that Thomas Jefferson himself envisioned cultivating grapes, laying the foundation for American viticulture. Our visit culminated in sharing a bottle of their superb Viognier, a white wine that holds a special place in my heart as one of my absolute favorites. Its delicate aromas, rich texture, and refreshing finish were the perfect culmination of our vineyard tour. Sitting among the vines, clinking glasses with my wonderful friends, and savoring such an exceptional wine, I couldn’t help but feel incredibly lucky. To be surrounded by such amazing, sweet, and gorgeous girls, sharing these beautiful moments in such a stunning setting, is a true blessing that I cherish deeply.

As the golden hour began to fade, marking the end of our adventurous afternoon among the vineyards, a new plan for the evening unfolded. I made a quick stop back at my house, just long enough to grab a comforting cup of coffee—a quintessential transition from an afternoon of wine to an evening of conversation—before heading back out the door. My destination was a dinner rendezvous with my dear friend Brittany. We were incredibly fortunate to have received an invitation from the lovely team at Kitchen on Cary for a special soft opening dinner. This wasn’t my first encounter with the establishment; I had previously enjoyed a delightful experience there, which I’d enthusiastically shared in a past post that you can read about here. The anticipation of revisiting and experiencing their newest offerings added an extra layer of excitement to the evening.

Upon arriving at Kitchen on Cary, the inviting ambiance instantly put us at ease. The restaurant buzzed with a gentle energy, a mix of excitement for the soft opening and the promise of a delightful meal. Brittany and I settled into our seats, eager to catch up and indulge in the culinary journey ahead. Our conversation flowed effortlessly for hours, touching upon a myriad of topics that define our lives: the vibrant pulse of Richmond, the intricacies of our work, the ever-evolving world of blogging, and of course, our shared passion for delicious food. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect deeply, sharing insights and laughs in equal measure.

For our starters, we both couldn’t resist the allure of the Arugula and Goat Cheese Salad. It arrived beautifully presented, a vibrant medley of fresh, peppery arugula perfectly complemented by the creamy, tangy goat cheese, all brought together with a delicate dressing that awakened the palate. It was an exquisite start to the meal, light yet incredibly flavorful. For my main course, I opted for the roasted vegetable sandwich, a wholesome and hearty choice packed with a symphony of seasonal flavors. Each bite was a delightful combination of perfectly roasted vegetables, offering a satisfying texture and taste. Brittany, on the other hand, chose the Sea Bass, which was cooked to perfection – flaky, tender, and seasoned impeccably. Both of us were genuinely impressed with our selections; that arugula salad, in particular, was truly amazing and has lingered in my memory! Beyond the fantastic food, the service was impeccable. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and struck the perfect balance between professional and friendly, ensuring our dining experience was seamless and enjoyable from start to finish. The team at Kitchen on Cary clearly put immense effort into every detail, making their soft opening a resounding success. They officially opened their doors to the public on Monday, and I wholeheartedly recommend them. If you find yourself in the vibrant Richmond area, do yourself a favor and give Kitchen on Cary a try – you won’t be disappointed by the delectable food and outstanding service.

With Alex away for the entire weekend, I found myself with an unexpectedly jam-packed “girls’ weekend.” From the scenic vineyard tours in Charlottesville to the delightful dinner in Richmond, every moment was filled with laughter, great company, and memorable experiences. I guess you could say I truly made the best of it, embracing every opportunity for connection and enjoyment. These are the moments that truly enrich life, reminding us of the joy of friendship and the beauty that surrounds us.
